May 7 and May 22 | 2 pm | Artist Panel Discussions, moderated by Clive Fullagar, Curator of In (and Out of) Place Artists: Doug Barrett, Katharina Bossmann, Clive Fullagar, Mary Gordon, Philip Heying, Marsha Jensen, Jennifer Schermerhorn, Luke Townsend, Diana Werts, and Kelly Yarbrough The Volland Store Gallery, 24098 Volland Road, Alma, Kansas Two panel discussions will be presented by the ten artists of In (and Out of) Place, currently on exhibit at The Volland Store Gallery in Alma, Kansas. The artists come from many parts of the Flint Hills.  Some grew up locally and never left, others found their way back to this region, and more yet were introduced to the Flint Hills later in life. Some in the group feel in place here, while others grapple with feeling out of place. The unique relationships to, perspectives on, and histories wit the Flint Hills meld together, forming a cross-section of sentiment shared by many in the region. Using a variety of media, including photography, fiber art, print making, and painting, the artists reflect on their relationship with the local landscape, community, and environment. Their art engages in an exploration of the history, culture, ecosystem and aesthetics of the place where they live, in order to deepen their understanding of that sense of place.  Featured artists are Doug Barrett, Katharina Bossmann, Clive Fullagar, Mary Gordon, Philip Heying, Marsha Jensen, Jennifer Schermerhorn, Luke Townsend, Diana Werts and Kelly Yarbrough. The panel discussions will begin at 2 pm on May 7 and May 22, moderated by Clive Fullagar who is the curator of the exhibit, as well as an exhibiting artist.  In (and Out of) Place opened April 9 and has been extended to June 26, 2022.  The gallery is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 1 to 4 pm. Closed Easter Sunday. Free admission.  Light refreshments will be served.
