About the Event
Now, until April 3rd, 2022!
IN LIGHT OF THE OMICRON SURGE, we are making some changes: The artist will not be present. Refreshments will not be served. HOWEVER, WE WILL BE OPEN FROM 1 TO 4. Masks are required, and we will have one for you, if you forget yours. If you find the gallery too crowded for comfort, you may enjoy a walk along Volland Road, where life-size photos of the artist's parents will wave to you. There is also a Nature Trail in the draw for your pleasure- or you may wish to explore the Ruin and imagine what you would like to see there. We are taking suggestions!
During installation of the exhibit, we will be shooting some video and chatting with the artist. If it turns out well, you may see it on Sunday! Please join us. We are anxious to see you, and we know you will like the exhibit. ______________________________ More ways to see the exhibit: Schedule a small group tour (minimum 6). Call 785-499-3616 and leave a message. Extended hours: Fridays, 10am -4pm ________________________________
For 27 years Deanna Dikeman photographed her parents waving goodbye during visits to their suburban Sioux City, Iowa home. A through-line in the moments, played out 90 times, is the humanity felt from a simple gesture. All 90 departures are shown inside the gallery, while six are reproduced at a large scale and shown around Volland.
Much has been written and said about Deanna Dikeman’s Leaving and Waving. Articles in The New Yorker and Brooklyn Rail give insight on Dikeman’s path to photography and the series. Dikeman has received much acclaim for the series, showing at Cortona on the Move festival in Cortona, Italy and the Bibliothèque nationale de France, François Mitterrand Library, Paris in 2021
