Sethfest began in 2017 as a project initiated by the late Max Byram. Max believed wholeheartedly in the Council Grove community and the history that it was built upon. Sethfest pays homage to Seth Hays, one of the first settlers in Council Grove. Max was also a passionate musician who wanted to see Council Grove become a sanctuary for musicians and artists. He wanted music and art to be more available to all ages. The Council Grove Arts Council strives to continue Max Byram’s dream through Sethfest, an annual free community event featuring :
 

• Regional bands showcasing a variety of genres

• Safe Kids Day & Creation Station packed with activities and demonstrations for children

• Delicious foods 

• Works of art offered for sale and created by local artisans

• Beard contest

• Youth Art Contest
