I Need A Favor

Writer: Zoey BondZoey Bond

Happy 2023, everyone! YOUR Council Grove Area Trade & Tourism Association has come out of the gate running. So far, in the first 11 days of 2023, we have sent out our membership renewals (check those mailboxes), hosted the first of our Community Roundtables : An Eastside Summit, launched ticket sales for our First Annual Gala Reception : A Trolley Fundraiser, stacked our community calendar with events, launched voting for our Council Grove Awards, and co-hosted the first session of All A-Board : Board Leadership Training with the Flint Hills K-State Extension Office.

And we’re not slowing down anytime soon.

Up next for us is budgeting (yawn), organizing our storage spaces (double yawn), AND #SecondSaturdayCG!

I encourage you to spend your time and dollars in Council Grove area businesses on Saturday, January 14th, because we hope to do something special that day! We’re calling it PINK CG! A fundraising effort for Morris County Hospital.

As you probably know, MCH has been raising funds for a new mammography machine. We heard about this and jumped at the chance to help.

Participating businesses in Council Grove will have a big pink poster in their window. The businesses will explain how they will donate to the cause on that poster. Some may say $1 of every sale will go to MCH. Others may say 30% of merchandise sales will go to MCH (that will be us at DESTINATION : Council Grove). Some may say 10% of your total dining bill will go to MCH. It’s the business’ choice, and all you have to do is show up and enjoy our community!

Additionally, Saturday morning, we are co-hosting a new series we’re calling “Who Did We Elect?” Saturday morning at 9am, at the Council Grove United Methodist Church, join us as we gratefully host the elected officials of Morris County, KS. We are thrilled to be partnering with the Morris County Democrats, Morris County Republicans, and this newspaper to make these opportunities happen for you.

This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions of our elected officials during an off-campaign season. All are welcome and encouraged to attend, but we do request that questions be submitted in advance. Email your questions to information@CouncilGrove.com.

So, are you curious about that favor I need?

Well, it’s pretty simple. So far, we have received a flood of votes for our new Council Grove Area Awards Program, but we want more! The nomination period closes Friday, January 13th. Please scan the QR code next to this article and make our judges’ lives harder. Do you know how many great businesses, organizations, and people are doing great things in our area??? This is going to be a tough call. And, I thought the Washunga Days Parade Grand Marshal was a hard choice!

Thanks in advance, y’all!

Don’t forget to keep up to date on all the Council Grove area happenings at CouncilGrove.com/events. There’s so much more to Council Grove.
