Phew, what a weekend it was in Council Grove, Kansas!
Last Friday and Saturday saw artists, musicians, and art lovers converge on our Riverwalk and in our restaurants and businesses, thanks to our incredible Council Grove Community Arts Council. I hope you had time to enjoy this free event. My time was spent supporting Gathering in the Grove’s surprise return in 2022!
Gathering in the Grove 2022 was almost history last year, but we knew there was still hope for this small but mighty event!
Hosted at The Territory Ballroom with the owner, Nicky Tiffany, at the helm. She designed, organized, and executed a beautiful event showcasing the artisans of the Flint Hills. We dedicated the Mock Heritage Award in honor of Sharon and Ralph Mock's influence on the arts in our area for decades. Art was bought and sold, and wonderful conversations were had by all. Nicky explained a bit about how Gathering in the Grove will grow in the coming years and invited previous committee members to join us as we plan for growth, success, and the future of this important event in our community.
So what’s next in Council Grove?
In addition to the events listed below, right, we are so excited about the 75th Annual Halloween Parade!
The businesses have come together to make this a spectacular event friendly for all ages. Here’s the scoop . . .
The Parade : Meet us at the corner of RT. 56 and K177, at the Guardian of the Grove, as we head West down Main Street and disperse at Route 56 Tees. (Pro-tip : The Council Grove First Congregational Church’s Annual Halloweenie Roast is right at the end of the parade route!)
The Costume Contest : After the parade, and while you’re trick-or-treating your way back downtown, swing by Kanvas for a quick photoshoot with Sister Act Photography. Costume judging will take place as soon as the images are uploaded. We’ll announce the winners here and on Facebook : @CouncilGroveKS!
The Pumpkin Carving Contest : Before the parade, bring those previously carved pumpkins to the amphitheater! We’ll announce the winner before the movie begins!
The Glow Halloween Egg Hunt : Put on by the Council Grove Recreation Department, is being moved to the Riverwalk this year and will begin at 7:00pm sharp. We’ll be lining kids up in age groups, and the youngest children will get the first shot at hunting in the dark!
The Halloween Movie : Stick around because, at 8:00pm, we’ll be showing a G-Rated Halloween-themed movie (TBD) and handing out popcorn. Bring your candy and blankets and enjoy our amphitheater together!
And don’t forget, classic Council Grove residential Trick-or-Treating will still happen on October 31st! Thanks to our business community for making an extra opportunity to wear those costumes and get overly sugared up!
One last thing : The Council Grove Area Trade & Tourism Associations proudly announces the 2022 Morris County Candidates’ Forum.
Candidates Michael Seymour II (d) and Nate Butler (r) will attend. Seymour II and Butler are running for the 68th District of the Kansas House of Representatives.
