Small Business Saturday : Our chance to show our business community how much we appreciate them!

This Saturday, November 26th, it’s SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY!

Do you know how many small businesses we have in Council Grove? Me neither! What I can tell you is . . . it’s a lot! And, there are some that, in my almost 16 months of Council Grove living, even I haven’t had the opportunity to visit.

I often wonder how many of us have “always meant to stop by and check that place out” but haven’t made the time. This year we launched HOLIDAY BINGO during Candlelight Charm. 52 Council Grove businesses are participating, and each card needs to be “stickered” by only 20 of them. Then you drop your card off with me at our DESTINATION : Council Grove office to be entered into a drawing for one of three $20 Chamber gift certificates or the grand prize of a $250 Chamber gift certificate. Bingo cards are available at most participating businesses or at our office, and it runs through December 24th, so there is still plenty of time!

Our Association Events Committee came up with Holiday Bingo this year to encourage visiting (or revisiting) our businesses in Council Grove. This Small Business Saturday, I am encouraging you once again to do just that.

Earlier this week, our Council Grove Trade & Tourism Association issued a challenge to all Council Grove households : Each household (there are approximately 927) commit to spending $35 at Council Grove small businesses on Small Business Saturday. If we rise to this challenge, that is over $30,000 that we can inject into our small rural community in just one day!

I know money is tight this holiday season, and $35 can mean a whole heck of a lot for some. But shopping local on this one day puts dollars moving back into our economy and shows our appreciation for the products, services, and community funding that our small business community gives us year-round.

Our small businesses sponsor our sports teams, fundraise for school supplies, sponsor community events, and volunteer for numerous organizations, boards, and committees. They are cooperative and work together to keep our community culture vibrant and engaging. They invest their life-savings into keeping our buildings in tip-top shape, preserving our history, and contributing an invaluable amount to our city’s aesthetic charm. Because these entrepreneurs took a chance on Council Grove, we all have so much.

$35 in gas, groceries, holiday gifts, haircuts, spirits, Braves gear, a dinner with friends, a new savings account for a grandchild, and so much more shows our small business community how much we care.

So I ask you to take the pledge with me this Small Business Saturday and commit your household to spend $35 at a Council Grove small business.

To incentivize you even more . . . our Council Grove Trail Trolley will be running from the east to the west sides of Main Street with a very special guest : SANTA! Take a ride with the big guy, tell him all your Christmas wishes, grab a candy cane, and hop off at a great new destination. The Trolley will be rolling non-stop, so wave it down for a lift through town!

And, one more incentive to spend just $35 at local businesses on Small Business Saturday : Check out our DESTINATION : Council Grove Facebook page that day for a chance to win your $35 back. Upload a picture in the comments of the designated post of your $35 purchase or while visiting a Council Grove business, and you’ll be entered to win a $35 Chamber Gift Card!

See how committed we are to making 2022’s Small Business Saturday a success? Please join us and encourage your friends and neighbors to take the pledge : $35 in Council Grove on Small Business Saturday!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our Council Grove Area Businesses, Neighbors, and Friends! We are grateful this year to do the work that we do in the community that we love.
